On March 12, 2020, Correira Law hosted a webinar entitled “The Death of Life Estates”. The program covered the steady decline of the use of life estates as a legitimate Medicaid and asset protection tool over the last few decades, culminating in recent changes to the life tables used in Massachusetts and discontinuation of “ladybird deeds” in Rhode Island. The webinar discussed the many dangers and downsides involved in using life estate deeds, and contrasted life estates with the preferred approach of properly drafted irrevocable Medicaid trusts.

The March 12 webinar was from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., was free of charge, and participating attorneys received one and one-half (1.5) Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Credits.
