Our firm founder, David J. Correira, passed away unexpectedly in June, 2020. The firm is now led by his partner and son, Eric D. Correira, who carries on an over thirty-five year tradition of value, commitment, and service to its clients.
David was a nationally recognized estates and trusts lawyer with three decades of experience litigating will, estate and trust cases. He consulted with colleagues overseas on international tax matters for multinational clients, and worked with lawyers across the country on various issues related to trusts and estates.
He had recently completed a LLM (Master of Laws) degree in comparative law focused on transnational commercial practice at Eötvös Loránd University Law School. Previously, he completed advanced estate planning and taxation studies at Boston University School of Law, studies in private international law at Oxford University, and post-doctoral studies in intellectual property, advanced litigation, and legal theory at Harvard Law School. He taught at law schools in Boston and throughout Europe.
David was the editor and author of two law practice volumes and widely published on various areas of estate taxes, trusts, probate administration, disability planning, and private international law’s impact on wills and property. He was a speaker at national and international conferences, and taught law school courses and advanced legal studies programs on taxation and business planning.
David was active in numerous community groups and civic affairs. During his career, he represented major national and international corporations, banks and trust companies in fiduciary litigation, tax and trust matters, and regulatory and legislative affairs. For some time, he was a partner at an AmLaw top 100 U.S. law firm and the third largest law firm in Florida.
