On June 13, 2019, Attorneys David J. Correira and Eric D. Correira presented a comprehensive asset protection planning seminar to members of the Rhode Island Bar Association at the organization’s annual meeting in Providence, Rhode Island.

From the Rhode Island Bar Association: “Recent increases to both the federal and Rhode Island estate tax exemption have further shifted the primary concern of many estate planning clients away from tax planning, and toward asset protection planning. This workshop provides an overview of the planning issues and techniques available to (1) avoid the Rhode Island elective share, (2) protect assets in the context of divorce, (3) protect assets from creditors, and (4) protect assets in order to become eligible for government benefits, including Medicaid. The workshop includes hypothetical planning scenarios, relevant case law, and sample trust provisions.”
